The Arts are high on the agenda in Katrineholm and the town has a rich cultural life. The Ängeln Arts Centre is sometimes referred to as Katrineholmers’ living room. The Art Centre houses a library, an art gallery and a café.

The Library

By national standards, Katrineholm Library is leading edge with regard to media offering, accessibility and IT development. The main library is located in the Ängeln Arts Centre and is open seven days a week in the winter. Outside opening hours it is possible to re-borrow, reserve books and other media, borrow e-books, search through the catalogue and book computers over the internet. There are six rural library branches!

Art, Music and Theatre

The Ängeln Arts Centre has events several times a week. Everything from children’s theatre, dance performances, author visits and concerts, to creative workshops and lectures. Some activities take place outside the Arts Centre, for example at one of our library branches, in Stora Djulö or in Stadsparken.

The beautiful Art Gallery has regional, national and international exhibitions. The small exhibition room, Hörnet, is open for anyone to book an exhibition period.

Song and music plays a central role in Katrineholm. There is a rich cultural society life with many active music and dance groups, as well as several choirs. Musikens Hus is the music societies’ arena. Rock music, graffiti and other youth culture takes place at the two youth art centres Inferno and Gamla Palladium.

Katrineholm has plenty to offer in the way of theatre and dance. The Theatre Society collaborates with Riksteatern and holds several performances a year. The free theatre group, Teater K, has its own productions in the Dans- och teaterhuset that they share with the anti-drug DuD Society. Arbetarteatern is an amateur theatre society that does revues, farces and a living Advent calendar.

In the summer the society uses the open air theatre in Djulö for theatre performances, a folk song festival and other events.

Katrineholm’s largest cultural attraction is Julita, Sweden’s Museum of Agriculture. Summer concerts are arranged and in a finely tuned setting, prominent musicians and singers perform at the annual Julita Festival.
